Call for Chapter Contributions

We invite submissions to an upcoming edited volume under contract with Wiley Publishing. Edited by Wassim Jabi and Theodoros Dounas, the book explores the transformative potential of graph-based thinking in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

Building plus Graph

As the AEC sector advances toward a web-based, collaborative model of BIM, current technologies fall short in handling complexity, connectivity, and interoperability. This book promotes graph-based representations as a scalable and intelligent foundation for modelling the built environment.

We seek chapter contributions that are practical, forward-looking, or critical, and align with themes such as graph databases, automation, interoperability, semantic technologies, and AI-enhanced models.

Chapters of approximately 6,000–8,000 words are sought for the following topics:

1. Graph Databases in the AEC Industry

This chapter should review graph database technologies (e.g., Neo4j, RDF) and their adoption in AEC. Topics include spatial and semantic data modelling, advantages over relational systems, and case studies from building design to digital twins.

2. Graph Generation and Automation

This chapter explores how graphs are generated from BIM, point clouds, floorplans, or sensor data. Methods may include manual workflows, rule-based systems, and computational pipelines.

3. AEC Design Tools, Schemas, Interoperability, and Formats

This chapter examines how tools (e.g., Revit, Rhino), formats (e.g., IFC, gbXML), and schemas influence graph construction. It should address interoperability and topological integrity in cross-platform workflows.

4. LLMs and Graph RAG

This chapter investigates the intersection of graph data and large language models in AEC. Topics may include semantic search, chatbot interfaces, and AI-driven reasoning over building graphs.

If you are working in these areas or have a compelling case study or theoretical perspective, we invite you to contribute. Please submit a 500-word abstract and a short biography using the form below. All proposals will be reviewed, and if accepted, authors will be invited to submit the full chapter manuscript. Contributing authors will sign individual publication agreements with Wiley.
